Movements begin with the telling of untold stories

MMP is Fundraising!

Dear MMP Supporter,

This month, 70 organizers will graduate from the latest round of MediaMobilizing Project (MMP) video and web trainings. These newmedia-makers represent eight Philadelphia community organizationsstruggling for livable working conditions, neighborhoods that serve theneeds of long-time residents, and equality in public education. Theyhave spent the past five weeks shooting and editing videos, grapplingwith how to tell their stories, and bridging language barriers to learnabout each other's strategies and visions for change.

We are asking you to:
and join this growing network of leaders, organizers, and media-makers.

Giving to MMP is not just a way to support our work, it is a direct part ofthe work. With your help, we have pulled together an expanding anddeepening network of grassroots community organizations that are usingnew technologies to share stories, address the common roots of ourproblems, and mobilize in support of each other's struggles. Somehighlights of our work in 2008 include:

  • Conducting eight six-week video and audio workshops for over 200 low-income leaders. Many of the participants now produce media for their organizations, building a grassroots media infrastructure for Philadelphia. For example, MMP's Labor Justice Radio, produced by taxi drivers, janitors, and hotel workers, airs news and analysis from workers' perspectives on WPEB 88.1 FM. You can listen to the show anytime by going to the Labor Justice Radio podcast.

  • Organizing a weekend-long MMP Network Leadership and Communications School, bringing together over 120 participants representing 12 community organizations to build a shared strategy for creating a more just Philadelphia.
  • Organizing a digital inclusion coalition that has worked to save Philadelphia's wireless Internet network, and is now crafting a vision for a city where all residents have access to the Web.

MMPremains committed to building a social movement and an independentmedia to amplify it through 2009 and beyond. We hope you will continueto be part of our network, support our efforts to build a communitymedia infrastructure, and assist anti-poverty organizations inproducing their own media. Your donation, no matter what amount, isessential to sustaining our work.

    Warmly,
    Media Mobilizing Project

P.S.With city-wide budget cuts in Philadelphia and all over the country, itis vital that we create an organized movement for social change. Pleasedonate now.
